James Scouller with “David Meltzer on Instagram Live”

I appeared with David Meltzer on his Instagram Live show on 1 August 2024. Unusually, David was broadcasting live from a commercial flight as the plane was taxiing to its arrival gate.

David isn’t so well known in the UK, but he’s high-profile in the USA. A professional speaker, trainer, author and entrepreneur, his podcast, “The Playbook,” is one of the top shows in the world, as measured by audience size and review ratings. On it, he interviews influential CEOs, sports icons and business founders who share their secrets to success.

His Instagram Live show differs from his podcast in that interviews are shorter, they’re live (not recorded and edited) and the large audience can get involved by offering real-time comments and questions to the guest, in this case me.

Central to our conversation was my new trilogy, How To Build Winning Teams Again And Again. David asked questions like:

• How do you encourage everyone to say what they’re really thinking and feeling in teams?
• How do you get people in teams to really engage, to truly commit, rather than just “play the game”?
• What’s the single most important thing you can do to help a team form quickly?
